During the July term in Uganda, pastors from Uganda and South Sudan gathered for a prayer meeting focused on mission to the Middle East. We shared a conviction that African churches are being called to move from mainly receiving missionaries to also becoming churches that send.
Many young East Africans are already moving to the Middle East for work. Wycliffe University is preparing to help form Christian young people as ‘Gospel Workers’ — people who work honestly in their professions while bearing witness to the Gospel through their lives.
We are considering training in Islamic culture, spiritual formation, vocational preparation, safety and discipleship. As this vision is still at an early stage, our first work is prayer: asking the Holy Spirit to lead the churches, raise prepared workers and open the right partnerships.
7월 우간다 사역 기간에 우간다와 남수단의 목회자들이 함께 모여 중동선교를 위한 기도회를 가졌습니다. 이 자리에서 아프리카 교회가 이제 선교를 받는 교회에 머무르지 않고 선교사를 보내는 교회로 일어서야 한다는 부르심을 함께 나누었습니다.
많은 동아프리카 청년들이 이미 여러 직업을 따라 중동으로 이동하고 있습니다. 위클리프 대학은 이들 가운데 그리스도인 청년들을 자신의 직업에 정직하게 충실하면서 삶으로 복음을 증언하는 ‘Gospel Worker(복음일꾼)’로 준비시키는 비전을 품고 있습니다.
이를 위해 이슬람 문화 이해, 영성훈련, 직업 준비, 안전과 제자훈련을 아우르는 교육을 준비하고 있습니다. 아직 시작 단계에 있는 비전이기에 무엇보다 먼저 기도하며 성령께서 교회를 인도하시고 준비된 일꾼을 일으키시며 필요한 동역의 문을 열어 주시기를 구하고 있습니다.
